Does anyone else use Mimecast with the MSO Outlook add-in? Since switching over to Endpoint Protection, MSO is unable to connect to the Mimecast service. I have tried various exclusions and even created a policy and set Endpoint Protection to OFF, and we still get the connectivity problem. Looking over a training session today I discovered the next release of MSO (Mimecast Services for Outlook) this is the client side agent that seamlessly intergrates into Outlook to provide and extend the functionality of the service. I'm a Mimecast certified admin at a major Mimecast partner, so I am a little (!) biased, but I like it, but two things to beware of are: The MSO (Outlook plug in) can be an issue, particularly in Citrix environments, so if you are a Citrix shop then using the MSO may not be an option.
If you are a Mimecast user and are also using Windows 8.1, you may find that when you have installed the Mimecast client for Outlook (MSO) and try to enter your domain or cloud credentials, the username has SMTP set and cannot be changed and the password part is greyed out.
We have created this MSI fix that will solve this issue for you and you can then use this MSI on a large scale basis to push out using Group Policy, Configuration Manager or WDS.
