Yrdsb Gifted Program Elementary School



A full-time gifted program (Partially Integrated). Parents and guardians of external students who would request that YRDSB staff review a current psychological assessment to determine if your child meets YRDSB gifted criteria must: Have a valid York Region address and have proof of their address; Register at their YRDSB regular home school. The focus of the program is to develop listening, speaking, phonemic awareness, language acquisition, and academic skills. Program strategies include Animated Literacy, Sound Skills, and the use of interactive white boards. Each school is serviced by a resource team that supports the professionals working with the these students. .There may be combined grades in the gifted program.York Region District School Board does not accelerate students.Curriculum is based on provincial curriculum by grade level which is differentiated to meet the needs of the students in the class Elements of the Partially Integrated Core Gifted Program.

In online elementary gifted programs, high-ability students benefit from an accelerated learning pace, specially trained teachers, and an enriched curriculum with choices for studying subjects in greater depth. They also enjoy opportunities to take part in special projects and develop higher-level thinking skills. Gifted and talented courses are available for elementary and middle school students in grades 3–8.

With Connections Academy, families of gifted children gain access to extra educational options. Gifted elementary students may be enrolled in advanced courses either for all subjects offered or only in their areas of strength and interest. When appropriate, younger gifted students may be given the opportunity to work at a higher grade level. We also offer elementary gifted and talented programs for 'twice exceptional' students, who are gifted but have special educational needs.
